What Bonafied does

Bonafied provides a free MOT history scoring tool for used car buyers and sellers in the UK. When you submit a vehicle registration number, we retrieve that vehicle's MOT history from government data published by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and apply a scoring model to produce an assessment.

This service is free to use. No account or payment is required.

Scope and limitations of the service

Our assessment covers MOT history data only. By using this service, you acknowledge and agree that:

Accuracy of data

MOT history data is sourced from the DVSA MOT History API and is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We present this data as supplied by the government and do not alter, interpret, or guarantee its accuracy or completeness.

If you believe MOT data for a vehicle is incorrect, you should contact the DVSA directly.

Affiliate links

Some links displayed on our result pages are affiliate partnerships. This means we may earn a small commission if you click through to a partner and complete a qualifying action such as a purchase or enquiry. This does not affect the cost to you.

Affiliate links are clearly identified on our result pages. The presence of an affiliate relationship does not influence which partners we recommend or how vehicles are scored.

Seller score cards

Sellers may download a score card image generated from their vehicle's MOT history assessment and upload it to vehicle listing platforms. By downloading a score card, the seller confirms they understand the assessment covers MOT history only and accepts responsibility for ensuring their listing is accurate and not misleading.

Bonafied does not place content directly on any listing platform and is not responsible for how score cards are used or displayed by sellers.

Intellectual property

The Bonafied scoring model, scoring methodology, branding, and website content are the intellectual property of Bonafied Cars Ltd. MOT history data is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0 and attributed accordingly.

You may not reproduce, redistribute, or commercially exploit content from this website without written permission.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
